Presentation is Everything

Welcome! This is the first post so I would like to do a shout out to all my friends and students who visit this blog. As well as provide relevant info and background to those of you I don’t know personally. As many people know, I used to design and manufacture costume jewelry in the late 80’s and early 90’s –I had many celebrities wearing the stuff and had a fairly successful enterprise for a few years… fast forward to 2009 – while I had stopped manufacturing jewelry many years back- I never stopped doing it.

Over the years I would create pieces for friends and family or the occasional commissioned piece and I obsessively studied jewelry and decorative arts all over the world. Besides studying all the great jewels and jewelry collections I photographed great historic collections of jewelry as well as decorative arts and some furniture. So you could say that jewelry and decorative arts is my crack.

I always say about a great piece –“ it’s the Tiffany Principal” – you know the scene in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn is staring in the store window and exclaims to George Papard – “I can’t afford anything here but just knowing there are beautiful things in the world make me feel better.” I don’t believe that the love of these things is elitist or even materialistic. Things of beauty created by man (or woman) are what separate us from the animal kingdom - they give us our humanity and, as Kandinsky said “Inspire Awe.”

I know my dearest and smartest friend Nina Sheffield will throw up when I say this but, “I know there is a god …because I have seen a Faberge Imperial eggs and worn vintage Cartier bracelets.” – The feeling I have when viewing and touching these items is positively spiritual.

As part of the blog and updates we will post upcoming jewelry events and museum exhibitions that might be of interest.
